Lithology and Thickness
Marada Fm LITHOLOGY= Interpreted as fluvial deposition, with estuaries draining into lagoons and fringed by offshore bars and barrier beaches. The formation is comprised of clastic sequences and cross-bedded fluvial sandstones, with intercalations of siltstone, clays, and trace gypsum. Members include the calcareous sandstones and sandy limestones of the Ar Rahlah, and the lower Qarat Jahannam. Important vertebrate fossils have been recovered from this formation, including crocodiles, pigs, giraffes, and mastodons. CALIBRATION = Base of Langhian.
